Instruments for measuring and testing the chief physical characteristics of the human body. These eight tools were used to measure, for instance, the diameter of the head, the height standing, the height above chair when sitting and the span of arms. One tool was also used to measure breathing capacity. The scales are finely engraved, in centimeters, the smallest division being the millimeter.
Tied up and rolled up in canvas cloth, these could have been use in the field during an anthropological expedition. These, in fact, come from the Department of Anthropology, according to the tag attached to the canvas. Number 218 is stamped on canvas.
