This is a photographic plate holder that goes with the Hilger camera model D10, which itself can be attached to a Hilger wavelength spectrometer (in this case, the D1/4 model). The plate holder is made of polished wood. It is equipped with rack and pinion to move the photographic plate up and down. A scale in millimeters (0-100) is placed on one side. The rectangular hole is to let the spectral light formed by the spectrometer pass through.
Comment: The D10 camera had a 21-inch focus lens, tilting adjustment for accurately focussing the whole spectrum, and shutter for exposure (not here). (taken from 1928 trade catalogue) Original price: 13 pounds 15 shillings (May 1932)
