Description:
This is a Spencer no. 44 laboratory compound microscope. It has a blackened horseshoe-shaped base of cast iron, a curved arm, and a monocular body. The body is equipped with a draw tube in a cloth-lined sleeve and a three-objective revolving nosepiece. The coarse focus is by rack and pinion and the fine focus is by a side screw. The focus knobs are chrome-plated.

There is a rectangular Bakelite stage (stage clips missing). A fork mounted condenser with an iris diaphragm and a slot for filters are located beneath the stage. The substage mount is adjustable by means of rack and pinion and has a slot for a plug-in mirror (missing). The condenser is the "new divisible type," comprising a combined condenser and a darkfield illuminator,
