"Student's Microscope" as shown in Boston Optical Works catalogues from 1871 onwards. (See Tolles-Dalton Papers, 1045d).
This compound microscope has an inclinable cast iron stand and arm adjusted by knurled brass screws. The brass tube is nickel plated. Coarse focus is by draw tube; fine focus is by means of a knurled screw adjusting a stage plate. The stage is brass and the stage clips are of nickel. There is a substage collar for a condenser or diaphragm. The substage mirror is present.
