FunctionThis is an illuminator housing to be used with an incandescent light source, No. 12334 in the Cenco catalogue. An extra carriage is required for use on the No. 12328 bench support (1997-1-0356). Furthermore, a No. 12326 quartz lens (1997-1-0358c) is required to focus the light beam on the entrance slit of the spectrophotelometer (1997-1-0358a).
The incandescent light is inside the housing. It is made with heavy tungsten ribbon filament and a "Corex" envelope. It can be used with temperature that does not go beyond 3,250° K. According to the Cenco catalogue, the lamp draws about 70 to 80 amperes at 4-5 volts and requires a No. 80307 step-down transformer to provide the necessary current. Furthermore, the transformer must be adjusted to the proper value through the use of one each No. 82915N and 82915P rheostats in the circuit (similar but not identical to WJ0132). A No. 82630A ammeter with NO. 80345 current transformer is used for indicating the amperage applied to the lamp. Finally, it is necessary to keep the voltage constant with a No. 80343D constant voltage transformer.
