Description:
This object consists of six Monoject 250 hypodermic needles and one vial of HEP-LOCK, or a heparin sodium solution in saline. Each needle point is encased in a light purple plastic and each needle base is encased in a translucent white plastic. The glass vial of HEP-LOCK is still full of liquid.

FunctionThe hypodermic needles and vial of heparin are part of an IV kit. The lettering on the needles indicates that the needles are 20 gauge (a needle diameter measurement) and one inch in length.

Heparin, a substance of animal origin, is an anticoagulant used to prevent and decrease blood clotting.
