Description:
The B-2 Cadet was an affordable box camera model produced in the late 1930s by the Agfa-Ansco Corportation of Binghamton, New York. The box-shaped camera is covered in black faux-leather material and has attached on its top surface a leather handle with the model name "B-2 Cadet" embossed. The camera itself is comprised of a single element meniscus lens, simple spring shutter and sliding aperture disc. The shutter speed is approximately 1/60 (of a second). There are two viewfinders on the camera, one for portrait perspective shots and the other for framing in a landscape or horizontal orientation. It takes B 120 roll film, which produces a 6 x 9 inch exposure size. The metal crank for winding the film reads "USE AGFA FILM."

Curatorial RemarksThis camera had previously been marked in the database as dating from 1925, but this date seems too early to for this particular model. A more accurate date for this camera is 1938 or some time in the late 1930s to early 1940s based both on the materials of its manufacture and the history of the Agfa Ansco Corporation.
ProvenancePrivate donation from Boston to David P. Wheatland.
