Description:
Tall brass cylinder with screw cap mounted vertically on turned wooden base. Screwed into one side at the top is a curved pipe with a glass globe at its end. Another pipe of similar form is separate because the screw receiver on the side opposite to its counterpart has broken off. Vacuum connection with stop cock at bottom. Wire screening in form of cylinder fits snugly inside and extends for the entire height of the cylinder.

Alongside the device is a spark rod that looks like it might have come from a coat hanger.

FunctionUsed for separating liquids by lowering the pressure in the container. When the pressure in the container reaches the substance's vapor pressure, that substance begins to evaporate.
