DescriptionThis is a Davis combined seaside telescope and microscope. The instrument comprises three basic parts: an interchangeable eyepiece tube, a telescope tube, and a microscope drum.
The eyepiece tube has an ocular at one end and slides within a brass collar with screw threads for attachment to either the telescope tube or base of the microscope.
When the eyepiece tube and its collar are used with the microscope, the field lens at the lower end is replaced by an objective attached to a nosepiece. The microscope objective is missing.
The drum base is of the English pattern. The eyepiece tube's sleeve screws into the top of the cylinder, which ahs been cutaway below for access to the stage and mirror. The stage is round stage; the mirror is concave with a knob on the right side of the drum to control the angle.
The telescope tube, into which the eyepiece tube sleeve screws, has a second draw tube and the fixed tube holding the objective lens. The tube is covered with black leather. The dust cap is missing.
The instrument is stored in a horizontal wooden case covered in thin stamped leather and lined with dark blue velvet. An accessory to the telescope is a solar eyepiece. It is stored in a compartment with a lift off lid covered in red leather. Original printed instructions were found in the case.
