Description:
A microtome knife with a long rectangular blade and a short slotted handle.

It is stored in a flat wooden case covered with blind-stamped black leather and lined with padded purple silk and purple chamois. The lid exterior is stamped with the owner's name.

FunctionThis knife is used with a microtome to cut specimens into thin layers for viewing under a microscope.
Historical AttributesThis microtome knife was obtained by Dr. Fred Clow of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire in the 1890s from Dr. H. W. Bradford, a noted Boston eye surgeon, who obtained the knife in Vienna.
