Description:
Class H chemical. Stoppered glass bottle of mercury, Hg. TOXIC VAPORS!,DANGER! CORROSIVE. CAUSES BURNS TO SKIN, EYES, AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. MAY BE FATAL IF SWALLOWED OR INHALED. HARMFUL IF ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN. AFFECTS THE KIDNEYS AND CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. MAY CAUSE ALLERGIC SKIN REACTION. Incompatibilities: Acetylenes, ammonia, ethylene oxide, chlorine dioxide, azides, metal oxides, methyl silane, lithium, rubidium, oxygen, strong oxidants, metal carbonyls.

The glass bottle has a wide mouth, a flange rim, bubbly glass and is stopped with a cork.

Historical AttributesBottle from Harvard Chemistry Department. The bottle was originally catalogued empty and then used by David Wheatland as a container for spilled or recovered mercury. Found with nine bottles of contained mercury and two bottles of sulfur powder on shelf 2J-1b.
