Description1084a is a Zeiss laboratory monocular compound microscope with stand IVa.
It has an inclinable, medium-sized stand, a fixed rectangular stage, and a blackened, horseshoe-shaped base. The coarse adjustment is by rack and pinion and the fine adjustment is by a micrometer screw knob on top of the post. The arrow for the graduated dial is not attached and is stored in the parts box. The dial is calibrated to intervals of 0.50 mm. The body tube contains an extendable eyepiece tube calibrated in millimeters. A nickel-plated revolving double nosepiece is attached.
Below the stage is a track to fit a slide with a cylinder diaphragm (currently stored in parts box, 1084b). There is also a frame holding an Abbe iluminating apparatus, a swing-out mount with rackwork holding an iris diaphragm, and a concave/plane mirror. An articulated substage mirror is stored in the case.
The microscope comes with two oculars: 1, 2. There are three objectives: D, F, and 1/12 Homog. Immers.
The microscope (1084a) is accompanied by a parts box [1084b] marked with the serial number 9950 which matches that on the instrument and mahogany instrument case. The box currently holds the case key, cylinder-diaphragm slide, the pointer for the fine focus dial, a blue filter, and some miscellaneous hardware and parts of the case that need to be reglued.
The microscope (1084a) is accompanied by an Abbe drawing apparatus in a separate box (1084c). It is stored in the fitted mahogany instrument case. A rack for holding extra eyepieces was removed to make space for it.
The instrument case is a flat case, but is made to be stood on its side. It has brass latch hooks in front, a heavy duty handle on the proper right side, and ball feet on the proper left side.
