Description:
This polariscope (inv. 2006-1-0059a) consists of a cylindrical brass sleeve with a polarizing glass window at each end. The top half of the center section is cut-away so that one may insert polarizing samples into a slotted, semicircular ring attached to the lower half of the sleeve. The samples are mounted on glass disks. There are six of them (inv. 2006-1-0059b)
The polarizer end of the polariscope has a bayonet mount for attaching the polariscope to a projection lamp or light source. A circular piece of translucent typing paper has been taped over the polarizer glass at this end, and is tanned from age. It serves as a frosting surface to diffuse the light source.
The analyser glass is held in a rotating brass cell.
