Description:
This is an "American patent clothes-pin" object holder for an early Thoma-type sledge microtome.

The nickel-plated brass clamp is fashioned like a clothes pin with a spring between two plates that pivot with respect to each other. Locking screws are on each end. The side without the spring has large grooves serving as teeth to grip the specimen. In the middle, there is a larger screw to clamp the object holder to the specimen-drive block of the microtome.
