FunctionPunched tape, made of 8 mm or 16 mm film, was moved by means of sprockets over a drum driven by a synchronous motor. The holes in the tape were a form of data storage that programmed different time intervals in an operant conditioning experiment. When an arm dropped into a hole, it closed a switch that set up the reinforcer for the next behavioral response.
