FunctionLarge tabletop lamp for illuminating for or more microscopes when set in the middle of a laboratory table. The shade prevents direct rays from reaching the eyes. The central section at the top is removable for indirect lighting of the room. The blue globe is a daylight filter when used with a 150 watt, 115 volt bulb.
Historical AttributesUsed by William A. Jackson (died 1964), first librarian of Houghton Library.
When Houghton Library opened in 1942, Jackson invested in a lot of state-of-the-art equipment for examining books and investigating them. The apparatus included microscopes, black lights, and special lamps. This was one of them.
