This chart, made by a former student of the École Polytechnique provides an overview of the process of setting up irrigation and drainage systems. The chart is divided into equipment for irrigation, drainage, and the watering of fields. The illustrations relating to irrigation consist of dams, networks of pipes for watering fields, and other apparatus. The illustrations relating to watering consists of several apparatus: several kinds of watering cans, a watering wagon, a series of ditches, and a series of sprinklers. The illustrations relating to drainage consist of the rest of the chart. Diagrams of drainage systems, hand tools for digging, tools for breaking up the soil, and other tools are shown in this section. The centerpiece of the bottom half is a system for pumping water using horsepower.
The pictures are captioned in French. Each of the three sections of the chart is accompanied by a longer essay on the process being illustrated.
