Description:
Vertical viewing telescope with an aperture splitting prism and iris at the eyepiece end. The test object and a reference ("proof plate") lie on a tilt-adjustable table (three leveling screws) under the tube and are illuminated with monochromatic light through one half of the aperture and viewed through the other. Interference fringes indicate the deviation of the test surface from the reference surface. The use of collimated light lets one compare surfaces that are separated by several millimeters.
