This Amici roof prism has a roof edge along the long reflecting (hypotenuse) face of a regular right-angle prism. Some faces are painted black.

FunctionThe roof prism is used to erect an image and the bend the line of sight through a 90° angle. It is commonly found in elbow telescopes, terrestrial telescopes, and some binoculars.
