Description:
Bell jar in glass on top of which is a brass tube equipped with a stopcock. There is a nozzle on the side of the tube and the remains of a rubber tube used to introduce or remove gas from the jar. On the other side is a mercury manometer.

FunctionThis device was most likely used with an air pump. It would have been set on the pump's vacuum plate and the chemical experiment would have been conducted inside the bell jar. The manometer was added to determine the air pressure inside the jar.
