Description:
This is a Spencer no. 57 junior stereoscopic compound microscope.
The stand is cast iron and has a horseshoe-shaped base. The binocular body is of the Greenough-pattern with large prism housings. These are attached to a cone-shaped nosepiece that has two pairs of objectives permanently installed. Rack and pinion is provided for the coarse focus. The focus knob is chrome plated. The instrument has a black crackle finish.
The rectangular stage is missing a glass top and stage clips. The substage mirror is on a swinging arm.
The instrument is stored in a standing wooden case that is covered with a leather finish.
Two circular accessories--mostly parts of substage condensers from another instrument--are also in the box.
