@ Black coloring. The calendar disc on IIb is unattached. Two brass scythe clasps on left side of II. Pewter clasp on left side of II to hold gnomon rod (missing). Brass arm at right side of Ila to set angle for equinoctial dial. Compass needle and glass missing. Double-lined border along outer edges. Modern paper label along left edge reads "C. Bloud. Dieppe. 1660-1680." in black ink. Labeled 389 in black ink along right edge.
la Double- and single-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges, surrounding circular equinoc- tial dial (labeled 1-12 twice, for use in spring and summer months), and at edges of central polar dial (labeled 8-12-4). Cen- tral metal rivet with hole for pin gnomon.
lb Double- and single-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges and surrounding type 1 French lunar volvelle. Pewter volvelle with scales labeled 1-30 (inner), I-XII twice (middle), and 10-20-28, 30 or 31 for each month (outer) from]a1111ier through decemb, with circular volvelle through which the lunar phase is visible. Foliate decoration on top disc. Latitude scale along right side from 0° to 80° to set angle for upper tablet.
Ila Horizontal dial with a single hour
scale for approximate latitude 46°, labeled 5-12-7. Pewter elliptical scale for the mag- netic azimuth dial labeled V-XII-VII. Very yellowed printed paper compass bowl insert with gazeteer of18 French cities (41°-50° latitude). Cardinal directions labeled Septwtrio11, Oriwt, 1Wydy, and Occide11t. Outer degree scale cut off. Double- and single-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges and surrounding the horizontal dial hour scale.
lib Double- and single-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges. Pewter volvelle (not shown, see figure 8, page 117) badly tarnished, with perpetual calendar square and calen- dar scale to set the date for the magnetic azimuth elliptical hour scale inside. The number 4 is scratched onto the rear of the volvelle, as well as onto the ivory.
