@ Black coloring. Brass arm at right side ofIra to set angle for equinoctial dial. Single pewter-brass alloy scythe clasp on II. Copper wire hinges. Blued-steel compass needle with gilt brass center. Glass is a replacement. Cigar-shaped brass gnomon rod in recess on left side ofII, held in place by a wooden peg. Clasp missing. Double- lined border on outer edges ofI and II.
la Double-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges and surrounding circular equinoctial dial labeled 1-12 twice, for use in spring and summer months. Central metal rivet with hole for pin gnomon.
lb Double-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges and surrounding type 2 French lunar volvelle. Pewter-brass alloy moveable volvelle labeled l-30 (inner scale) and 1-12 twice (outer scale, on ivory, also to be used as equinoc- tial dial scale for use in autumn and winter months). Latitude scale along right side from 0° to 80° to set angle for upper tablet.
Ila Horizontal dial with a single hour scale for approximate latitude 37°, labeled 4-12-8 on a brass insert on top of compass bowl glass. Printed paper insert in compass bowl with gridded gazeteer of the attributes of 18 French cities. Brass elliptical magnetic azimuth dial scale in compass bowl labeled v-xu-vn. Cardinal directions labeled Septe11trio11, Orient, Mydy, ·and Occide11t. Double-lined bo~der with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along edges and surrounding compass bowl.
llb Double-lined border with typical Dieppe "pecked" ornamentation along the edges and surrounding the volvelle. Pewter- brass alloy volvelle with perpetual calendar square and calendar scale to set the date for
the magnetic azimuth elliptical scale inside. Inscribed ''.Jacques guerard A Dieppe fecit" on volvelle. Corner apparently burned.
