FunctionThis instrument permits users to tell time according to the position of stars in five steps. First, the user must set the date by rotating the arrow on the outside of the instrument, and Second, point that arrow toward the horizon. Third, the user must locate Polaris through the hole in the center of the instrument. Fourth, the user must align the rotating arm with the two pointer stars, URSA MAJOR alpha and beta. Finally, users can read the time from the aligned pieces.
