Description:
This is a blue and white poster describing the development of navigation in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Europe. It is illustrated by facsimiles of six period prints (arranged along the left and right edges of the blue portion of the poster ), a drawing of a navigator using a cross-staff (bottom center), and photographs of a sixteenth-century Portuguese mariner's astrolabe (center) and a Portuguese variation compass (bottom center).

The poster, produced by the Whipple Museum of the History of Science, highlights that museum's collection of early modern navigational instruments.
