The gearing model is mounted on a rectangular wooden platform. The platform is raised on reddish wooden bracket legs at each of its short edges. A cylindrical post rises from each corner of the platform. The posts are connected by four cross beams, creating a rectangular frame. The gearing components are connected to one another within and with the support of this frame. There are eleven different forms of gears or partial gears interlocking throughout the model. A trip hammer, pump rod, universal joint, work gear, bevel gear, lantern pinion, trundle, ratchet clutch, belt drive, and set of stamps are also built into the apparatus.
There are four brass thumb screws attached to the rectangular frame. There are two one each side, one on top and one below the edge. The thumb screws permit users to adjust certain components of the model.
