John Logie Baird
1888 - 1946
John Logie Baird is one of the inventors of television. In 1925 he developed the first mechanical television system, which used mechanical picture scanning and electronic amplification. The signal could be transmitted by radio or telephone lines. He gave the first public demonstration of television in 1926 in London.
Baird Television Ltd. (BTL) was formed in 1930, and in 1932 it was absorbed by the Gaumont British Picture Co. The companies no longer exist.
Baird was born on August 13th, 1888, in Helensburgh, Scotland and died on June 14th, 1946, in Sussex, England. He studied electrical engineering at Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College (now called Strathclyde University), and studied towards his Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Glasgow.
