Jacobus Houbraken

Jacobus Houbraken was an engraver born in 1698 in Dordrecht. In 1707 he moved with his family to Amsterdam, where he worked with his father, the engraver Arnold Houbraken.

A portrait artist exclusively, the younger Houbraken's reputation grew with his work on the collection Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain, published in London between 1743 and 1752. In total, Houbraken completed over 400 portrait engravings during his lifetime.

Houbraken died in Amsterdam in 1780.
