George Cruikshank
1792-1878
Born in London in 1792, the artist George Cruikshank apprenticed under his father, Isaac Cruikshank.
Though the younger Cruikshank began as a caricaturist like his fater, beginning in 1823 he worked primarily as a book illustrator. He was known for his political works making fun of the royal family and other politicians. Cruikshank also illustrated several works for Charles Dickens, including Oliver Twist and, later in life, a large number of temperance publications.
Cruikshank died in 1878.
