Remarks: Cary name continued until 1891.
William Cary (c1759-1825) was apprenticed to Jesse Ramsden before setting up shop as an instrument maker in 1789. He was well regarded for his telescopes, rules, microscopes, clinometers, and compasses. He also had a partnership with his brother John making terrestrial globes.

After his death in 1825, business continued under his name, managed by his nephews, and after 1851 it was managed by Henri Gould, who had worked with William. The company kept the name until 1891.
