Coenraad Metz
Coenraad Metz was a scientific instrument maker from Danzig. In 1665, he went to Amsterdam, where he became a citizen. That year he was a compass maker on the Herengracht, and later he was recorded as instrument maker in the Kalverstraat. In 1685 Metz made a large sextant for the 'Leidse Sterrewacht' (Leiden Observatory). In 1701, he worked with Dirk Metz, probably his son. Coenrad Fibus Metz, another instrument maker, was another son. From 1706-1708, Coenraad was in charge of the maintenance of the scientific instruments of Leiden University. In this he was succeeded by Jan van Musschenbroek.
