Fernand Emile d'Humy

1873 - 1955

He was Western Union's Vice-President of Developement and Research. Born in London, he studied under Sir William Varley and he came to the U.S. in 1888 and attended the MIT. He entered the communications field with the Postal Telegraph Company in 1891. He
joined the Western Union Telegraph Company as central office engineer 19 years
later and was responsible for the design of all United States equipment and office
buildings used in the company's service. In 1946 he was made vice-president in
charge of development and research activities of the company, a position he held until
his retirement.
