Gustav Robert Kirchhoff, (born March 12, 1824, Königsberg, Prussia [now Kaliningrad, Russia]—died Oct. 17, 1887, Berlin, Ger.), German physicist who, with the chemist Robert Bunsen, firmly established the theory of spectrum analysis.
