CeCo Manufacturing Company
1924 - 1932
C. E. Manufacturing Company was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1924 as a manufacturer of electrical appliances and vacuum tubes. Ernest Kauer, the chief engineer, bought the company from the owners in 1928, and renamed it the CeCo Manufacturing Company.
The factory was licensed by RCA to produce tubes in 1929, and a research laboratory was built next to the factory in 1930. The P1 and P5 pentodes were developed there. The factory employed 1000 people and produced over 10 million tubes. However, Kauer preferred the research end of the business.
In 1931, CeCo Manufacturing Company was doing business as the Argus Radio Tube Company.
In 1932, the company went into receivership and was acquired by Gold Seal Electric Company, Inc.
