Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza
The Istituto di Storia della Scienza was founded in Florence in 1927 to reunite various collections of scientific instruments that had been disbursed after the Unification of Italy. In 1930, following the Istituto's successful First National Exhibition of the History of Science of the previous year, the University of Florence opened a permanent exhibition of the Istituto's holdings in Palazzo Castellani.
In the first decade of the 21st century, the vastly expanded Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza was reorganized in order to rebalance attention on the Istituto's research and documentation activities. The altered museum reopened in June 2010 as the Museo Galileo.
