The Rowland Institute at Harvard founded in 1980 by Edwin H. Land as The Rowland Institute for Science."It is a privately endowed, nonprofit, basic research organization, conceived to advance science in a wide variety of fields. Current research is carried out in physics, chemistry, biophysics, and biology, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary work and the development of new experimental tools."
In 2002, the Rowland Institute for Science merged with Harvard University.
