Arthur M. Edwards

Arthur M. Edwards was a botanist and protozoiologist specializing in microorganisms and diatoms. He lived in New York City, and later Newark, NJ. He was Microscopist to the Geological Survey of New Hampshire.
He was the author of Life Beneath the Waters, or, The Aquarium in America (New York, 1858), which was one of the first books published on aquariums in America.
He also wrote On Collecting, Preparing, and Mounting Diatomaceae for the Microscope (2 editions in 1859; Directions for collecting, preserving, and transporting specimens of Diatomaceae, and other microscopic organisms (2 editions in 1867, 3 in 1874); and Practical Directions for Collecting, Preserving, Transporting, Preparing, and Mounting Diatoms (3 editions in 1877); and similar works on the natural history of diatoms.
He supplied many microscopic specimens to the United States Army Medical Museum and is listed as Arthur M. Edwards, Esq. in Catalogues of the Microscopical Section and Surgical Section published in 1866 and 1867.
