Wendish villages K$04olln & Berlin, were founded in 13th cen., merged 14th cen., called Berlin by Hohenzollerns; at center of canal system of Oder & Spree rivers; damaged in WW II; divided into 4 occupation zones 1945, E & W governed separately from 1949.
